Humane society features many animals seeking forever homes
By Patrick Lynn
At any given time, the Humane Society of Portage County has an average of over 200 domestic dogs, cats, and other animals under its care until they find their forever homes.
The humane society operates largely with a staff of volunteers and relies almost entirely on private donations.
Director Sherri Galle-Teske said the organization is preparing for its annual fundraiser, Beer and Cheese for Pets Please, on Aug. 20. The event will take place from 5-9 p.m. at Feltz Family Farms and Dairy Store, 5796 Porter Rd. in Plover.
Admission is $20 for non-alcohol tickets and $40 for 21+ general admission. Participants can enjoy a fun night either under the stars or under the tent, as Point Brewery will supply unlimited craft brews and hard cider samples of their famous beer, including their famous rootbeer and sodas, and taps a special keg.
Cheese is provided by local Wisconsin cheesemakers providing award-winning treats, Galle-Teske said.
Also provided are an array of sausages, fresh cheese curds, and more. Live music will be performed by Gray Catz.
Various basket raffles and a 50/50 are also planned. Door prizes will be announced every 30 minutes.
