Hatch event engages public on business pitches

By Brandi Makuski

An entrepreneurial competition returns to Stevens Point.

Hatch, a startup business pitch platform, is holding a pitch competition on May 16. Attendees will help chose the winning proposal after business pitches are presented.

Entrepreneurs will pitch for the grand prize of $5,000, along and other business services for “the most articulated and furthered business idea,” according to a press release from Hatch.

“There may also be one or two wildcard slots for presenters that have furthered their business idea,” the release also said.

Locally, Hatch events are held by the Portage Co. Business Council in partnership with Brightstar Wisconsin Foundation and NEWaukee, and typically are held in a large space with music, food and beverages.

The event is free and open to the public, but anyone wishing to attend should register here.

For entrepreneurs seeking local exposure, and a chance to win the startup funds, there’s still time to register your idea. Pitches must be registered by April 30 here.

Entrepreneurship exhibitors are also being sought for the event. In an effort to build a “network for entrepreneurs in Central Wisconsin”, vendor tables are available for business and organizations offering support for startup companies.

For a fee of $50 for nonprofits and $100 for corporations and for-profit companies, exhibitors are provided a six-foot display table for their display, which can include banners, flags, and other signage; company name inclusion on event program and promotional materials; and recognition in the night’s opening remarks.

The event will be Wed., May 16 from 6-8:30 p.m. at Eron’s Event Barn, 3471 County Rd. C in Stevens Point.
