Green Circle Trail Receives Tourism Grant

Metro Wire Staff

The Green Circle Board is a recipient of a $13,000 grant from the local tourism committee.

The check was presented this week to Jim Canales, Green Circle Board president, and Nick Schultz, former president, by Sara Brish, executive director of the Stevens Point Area Convention & Visitors Bureau.

The grant was announced in November 2017, geared towards development of local attractions that appealed to visitors and improve overall tourism assets in the Stevens Point Area.

The Stevens Point Area Tourism Development Committee was formed in June 2016 following a change in state law which takes control of room tax dollars away from elected city officials. The committee determines how to utilize 70 percent of all room tax dollars on promoting tourism in the city.

According to the Green Circle Board, the grant will be used to help fund a new trail-head project, slated for construction this year in Schmeeckle Reserve, which includes an open-air shelter and all-season restroom building.
