The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for Portage County through 9 a.m. on Wednesday, June 20.

According to the weather alert, officials at the NWS on Tuesday measured the Wisconsin River south of Stevens Point at 1,076 feet, which is flood stage.

A little over two inches of rain has fallen in Portage Co. in the past 48 hours, according to the NWS, about half the current total rainfall for June. Several lowland areas are flooded as a result.

“It’s possible the river could rise a little more as water from upstream locations flows southward,” the alert reads in part. “Flows are above normal and could be a hazard to boaters and other recreational interests along the water.”

Residents should use caution on the Wisconsin River and along its banks.
