Exclusive: Plover Fire Department members take oath

By Brandi Makuski

The staff at the Plover Fire Department are now Constitutional officers.

Fire Chief Mark Deaver said the department is undergoing several internal changes; one change includes updating the department’s standard operating procedures (SOP) with Lexipol, a risk-management organization that works with police, fire/EMS, and other emergency management entities.

While the oath has been standard during at badge-pinning ceremonies for senior officers like Deaver, Deputy Fire Chief Trevor Howard, and Deputy EMS Chief Anthony Luchini, it’s now part of department policy for all members.

“Now we have all our members sworn in because they are all servants of the state and nation, and they have to abide by the Constitution,” Deaver said. “It holds them to a higher standard.”

Over 30 of the department’s firefighter, EMT, and paramedic members took the oath, which was administered by Village Clerk Karen Swanson. Village Trustees Steve Fritz and Gary Wolf, and County Board Chairman Al Haga were also present.

Following the ceremony, the department had a spaghetti dinner at village hall.
