The Plover VFW has a new cement patio space, thanks to donations from local businesses.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10262 recently added an outdoor cement patio area on the north side of its building, thanks to donations from County Materials Corporation and Firkus Masonry, Inc., both located in Stevens Point.

County Materials Corporation provided cement and materials for the new 20×22 patio addition, while Firkus Masonry, Inc. provided the masonry construction workers who completed the patio over the course of two days in late August, according to a news release from the VFW.

The combined donation of materials and masonry construction is valued at approximately $2,000.

Post member Mike Zynda initially contacted the businesses for information and estimates on the proposed cement patio, and both chose to donate to the project on behalf of Plover VFW.

“I am most proud and honored to support our veterans through this project, as I am a disabled veteran myself,” said Firkus Masonry Founder, Ron Firkus.

The new patio will be used to facilitate outdoor cooking, dining, entertainment, and other post events and activities.

Plover VFW is located at 2970 Hickory Dr. and is open to the public from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.
