David Darrel Shurbert, 58

David Darrel Shurbert, 58, passed away on April 18, 2019, at home in Plover, succumbing to an overmatched battle with small cell lung cancer.

Born on July 24, 1960, in Eau Claire, Wis., the son of Richard E. and Grace Shurbert. He attended local schools and worked various jobs in the Stevens Point area, leading to an occupation in the hospitality industry. Greater opportunities took him to Houston, Texas, where he lived for more than 10 years before disability and family ties had him returning to Plover.

Dave was a horticulturist at heart, having a gift with the greens, but fishing on the Wisconsin River was his passion. Quiet, with a wonderful sense of humor and sly smile, Dave was the wingman for his family and friends. A trusted companion, house sitter, child caretaker, camp attendant, and handyman, he would be there when called upon.

Quiet as the fog, Dave would roll into family gatherings, now he has quietly rolled out. He must “have things to do”.

He is survived by his mother Grace Shurbert, Stevens Point; sisters Tammee Peters, Houston, and Cindi Shurbert (Don) Hetzel, Stevens Point; brothers Gary (Karen) Shurbert and Rich Shurbert, Plover; William (Tina) Shurbert, Santa Cruz, Cali.; and Ron (Rhonda) Shurbert Stevens Point.

Preceded in death by his father Richard E. Shurbert.

A gathering of family and friends will take place on Thursday, April 25, 2019, from 4-6 p.m. at Shuda Funeral Home, 3200 Stanley Home Stevens Point.
