Stevens Point will celebrate its new pickleball courts on June 6

The parks, recreation, and forestry department has scheduled a ribbon-cutting for six new pickleball courts, created earlier this year by repurposing some underutilized tennis courts at Mead Park. It is the only dedicated pickleball space in the city, according to Mayor Mike Wiza.

“Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the country and we’ve been working on dedicated courts for over a year. To finally have them operational is really exciting,” Wiza said in a press release on Thursday.

Wiza said that Andrea Ingvalson, USA Pickleball Ambassador, will be present to help launch the new space. She will also lead a pickleball clinic for beginners immediately following the ribbon-cutting. Equipment will be provided.

The pickleball courts open on Friday, May 27. The ribbon-cutting will be at 4 p.m. on Monday, June 6.

Mead Park is located at 1201 West Whitney St., on the west side of the Clark St. Bridge.
