Registration for learn-to-skate classes is now open.

Operated by the city’s parks, recreation, and forestry department, classes will be held at the K.B. Willet Ice Arena, 1000 Minnesota Ave. Classes for all ages and abilities are available.

Classes begin on Sept. 13. Sessions are nine weeks long and skaters can choose from Tuesday evening or Saturday morning offerings.

One popular class, “Snow Plow Sam,” offers introductory lessons for kids under six to build confidence while learning to skate and incorporate fun games.

Basic-level classes build on the courage and agility that comes with more time on the ice, and advanced classes are where skaters can take their skills to the next level.

The arena partners with Learn to Skate USA and uses the organization’s proven skate curriculum, which is endorsed by U.S. Figure Skating, USA Hockey, and U.S. Speed Skating organizations.

Classes typically fill quickly, according to facilities supervisor Anne Hylla, so anyone interested is encouraged to register soon.
