Monteverdi Chorale announces interim artistic director, vocalist auditions

By Patrick Lynn

The Monteverdi Chorale has taken on an interim artistic director.

Matheus Cruz is originally from Brazil but recently took the position of interim director of choral activities at UW-Stevens Point. He also takes the reigns as Monevedri’s interim director, succeeding Dr. Cody Miller, who has since moved on.

Dani Wyatt, executive director of Monteverdi Chorale, said the organization was “overjoyed” to have Cruz on board.

“We look forward to his fresh perspective and are excited to see his interpretation of our coming season’s concerts,” said Wyatt.

Cruz received his bachelor’s degree in music education from the State University of Maringa and his master’s degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. In Brazil, he worked as a public school teacher and directed community and church choirs in Parana. Matheus is currently a DMA candidate at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where he has served as conductor for Canticum Novum, and assistant conductor for the Conservatory Singers.

Monteverdi’s first performance of the season will be held in December at Woodlands Church in Plover with the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra. To purchase tickets go to cwso.org.

Monteverdi is also holding open rehearsals for anyone interested in joining the group.

Two open rehearsals will take place on September 11 and 18 from 6:30-9 p.m. in Noel Fine Arts Center Rm 250 at UW-Stevens Point. All are welcome.

Interested candidates must attend at least one open rehearsal. To schedule an audition, contact Wyatt at [email protected].
