Boys and Girls Club celebrates reaching ‘Cheese’ goal

The Boys and Girls Club of Portage County has reached its fundraising goal for 2021.

The $100,000 drive is usually held during an annual Taste of Wine & Cheese event at Pfiffner Pioneer Park, the group’s main fundraiser.

For 2021, the event was replaced with a virtual “We’re Not Wine-ing…But We Still Need Your Cheese” campaign.

The online fundraiser was held throughout much of the month of April, and when the goal was reached, Executive Director Kevin Quevillon, dressed in a mouse costume, rolled a foam wheel of cheese across the finish line in a cloud of confetti.

Dairy State Cheese and Biery Cheese provided cheese snacks for the celebration.

“We are thrilled to have reached our goal,” Quevillon said. “We have seen an increase in the needs of children due to the pandemic, and we are fortunate to have a strong, generous community ready to help our youth.”

Major sponsors for this campaign included Tony and Jenny Sweeney, Compass Properties, Midwest Communications, Newsline 9, Delta Dental, and Len Dudas Motors.
