Bootstrap takes in large donation from Elks

Stevens Point Elks Lodge 641 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks recently presented a donation of $2,000 to Operation Bootstrap to assist the needy in Portage County.

Operation Bootstrap is an all-volunteer social service agency that helps families with basic needs like emergency food, shelter, utility payments, and paying for medications. It’s the principal food bank in Portage Co. serving over 500 people a day.

The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks is a non-political, non-sectarian, and strictly American fraternity. Proposal for membership in the Order is only by invitation of a member in good standing. To be accepted as a member, one must be an American citizen, believe in God, be of good moral character, and be at least 21 years old.

Stevens Point Elks Lodge 641 was created in 1901. Its downtown location was dedicated over 80 years ago.
