VIDEO: Downtown Christmas Tree installed

By Brandi Makuski

Crews from the city’s streets department have installed the 2019 Christmas Tree.

The 30-foot tree, described by Streets Superintendent Dennis Laidlaw as, “a beautiful blue spruce,” went up in 19-degree temps with blistering winds on Monday. The tree was donated by Tim and Marilyn Swiecki, Laidlaw said.

Employees from the streets department will decorate the three throughout the week.

The tree will be lit at 6 p.m. on Nov. 22, the official kickoff of the downtown annual Holiday Parade, and the time when Christmas lights across the city are turned on.

The parade is scheduled 6-9 p.m. on Main St. This year’s theme is, “Trees on Parade,” according to Troy Hojnacki, president of the Stevens Point Alliance, formerly known as the Downtown Business Association.
