UW-Stevens Point to host presentations on Afghan culture

Discover the music, dance, and fashion of Afghanistan at three presentations at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in April and May.

Afghan designer and women’s advocate Sarwat Najib will be in residence at UW-Stevens Point to offer the presentations, which are free and open to the public. All events will be held at the Noel Fine Arts Center, 1800 Portage St., Stevens Point.

Events include:

  • Tuesday, April 18, 11 a.m.-12:50 p.m., Dance Studios. Join a music and dance demonstration featuring the national dance of Afghanistan. No dance experience is required.
  • Wednesday, April 19, 5:30-7 p.m., Room 221. Najib will present a lecture on the Golden Age of Afghanistan and share her fashion philosophy.
  • Wednesday, May 10, 7-9 p. m., Room 221. Najib will present a fashion show featuring her designs and her advocacy for women workers in Afghanistan.

These events are sponsored by the College of Fine Arts and Communication, Center for Inclusive Teaching and Learning, and the Department of Theatre and Dance at UW-Stevens Point.
