The Big Garlic reopens with a flavorful comeback

STEVENS POINT — In August 2022, owners Tony and Desiray Rockweit pursued a culinary adventure when Tony realized the Stevens Point area needed a restaurant that embraced a garlic flair.

The Big Garlic quickly became popular for their garlicky burgers and is now a local favorite.

In September, a devastating fire, caused by a malfunctioning washing machine, temporarily closed The Big Garlic and its neighboring business, Galaxy Comics Games & More. The latter has temporarily relocated to the South Side Plaza on Church St.

The Big Garlic is making its return at 1157 Main St. The eatery officially reopened its doors on Monday, April 1.

The new location, formerly home to Habibi’s Gyros & Kabob House, which closed in 2022, was redesigned to reflect The Big Garlic’s signature charm, Desiray Rockweit said.

Despite the new location — and a few new menu items — the Rockweits said they’re bringing back the same staff and and some of its fan-favorite dishes.

Desiray Rockweit said the restaurant tested several new menu items during a soft opening, and she thinks new and returning customers will be pleased.

The menu promises exciting additions and original favorites, including a New York-style hotdog, grilled and fried chicken sandwiches, and grilled cheese. The restaurant will also have gluten free options.

“We completely redesigned this space to make it ours and we are excited to show you,” Desiray Rockweit said. “Thank you once again to everyone who has stood by us. Your support means the world to us, and we cannot wait to embark on this new chapter together.”

The new location will be open seven days a week with more seating and an online ordering option available with Toast.

Hours of operation are 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
