Stevens Point has been named on a list of the best college towns and cities in the nation.

It’s the second-highest-ranking Wisconsin city on the list, behind Madison.

The personal finance website wallethub.com studied 400 communities across the country with at least 7,5000 post-high school students, basing its findings on 32 key indicators of academic, social, and economic opportunities for students. Its data set ranges from the cost of living to the quality of higher education to the crime rate.

UW-Stevens Point is a public university that grants associate, baccalaureate, and master’s degrees, as well as doctoral degrees in audiology and educational sustainability. In 2018, it merged with UW-Stevens Point at Wausau and UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield. According to the U.S. Department of Education, the school serves about 7,700 students.

Stevens Point is also home to Mid-State Technical College, which is headquartered in Wisconsin Rapids and also has a campus in Marshfield, and a learning center in Adams. The DOE says MSTC has about 8,000 students across the region.
