State begins construction on I-39 north

Metro Wire Staff

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation will begin working on a deteriorated section of I-39 in Portage Co. this week.

The $2.54 million state contract is being led by American Asphalt in Mosinee. The road will be resurfaced between County Hwy. X and the Marathon Co. line. Construction is scheduled to begin Tuesday, July 5.

As part of the project, crews will remove a portion of the existing pavement and place new asphalt pavement on I-39 and the on- and off-ramps at the County DB interchange, clean culvert pipes and repair the pipe station, and replace the guardrail.

I-39 will remain open during construction, but motorists will encounter single-lane closures.

Construction is scheduled for completion in mid-August, weather pending.
