Spring candlelight hike scheduled at Schmeeckle

Metro Wire Staff

The annual spring Candlelight Hike Festival returns next month at UWSP’s Schmeeckle Reserve.

The popular event will be held on May 6, from 7-9:30 p.m.

This year’s theme is “Schmeeckle: The Musical,” and will feature UW-Stevens Point students performing brief programs and skits, and leading craft stations in and around the visitor’s center.

The community is welcome to explore several torch-lit trail loops throughout the reserve. Attendees will also have a chance to roast marshmallows around a campfire and participate in family-friendly hands-on activities throughout the evening.

Parking is available near the visitor’s center at 2419 North Point Dr. The event is free and open to the public, and donations are welcome.

Schmeeckle Reserve is a 280-acre nature reserve on the UWSP campus, open to the public from sunrise to sunset. The reserve includes five miles of trails and boardwalks, a 24-acre lake, gift shop, Wisconsin Conservation Hall of Fame and Museum, and a large diversity of habitats that support numerous wildlife species.

The reserve also has facilities available for rent. More information can be found at uwsp.edu/schmeeckle.
