The junior class at SPASH isn’t taking COVID-19 lying down.

After the school’s formal dances were shut down during the pandemic, student Alyssa Olson and others from the class decided to hold their own prom.

The May 22 prom, “In the Garden,” will be held at the Amherst Fairgrounds. The dance will be held 7:30-10:30 p.m.

Olson said the fairground building will have doors and windows open for extra ventilation, and extra sanitation has been coordinated throughout the event to keep attendees safe.

Attendance for the event is capped at 150 people.

Olson and others assisting in organizing the event have secured several donated or low-cost services from area businesses and private individuals, including photography and a DJ.

Tickets need to be purchased ahead of time, and all attendees need to sign a waiver, which is available in the Facebook group Stevens Point Area Junior Private Prom 2021.

Students can also contact Alyssa Olson at SPASH for the waiver and to purchase tickets.
