Sheriff takes receipt of bill-signing pen

Metro Wire Staff

Rep. Katrina Shankland stopped in Stevens Point on Friday to present Sheriff Mike Lukas with a bill-signing pen.

The pen was one of several used by Gov. Tony Evers on April 6 to sign Assembly Bill 28, now Wisconsin Act 4, into law.

The bipartisan legislation, co-sponsored by Shankland, and reclassifies county jailers as a protected occupation under the Wisconsin Retirement System.

The bill provides county jail workers the same benefits as other protective occupation status workers, including earlier retirement at 50 and expanded disability benefits.
