Robert “Bob” Gordon Monear, 76

Robert “Bob” Gordon Monear, of Stevens Point, passed away on March 8, 2023 at Stevens Point Care Center, at the age of 76.

Bob was born on August 28, 1946 in Manistique, Michigan, son of Edwin and Aileen (Riley) Monear. He graduated in 1964 from P.J. Jacobs High School, Stevens Point. He was employed at Nekoosa Papers in Port Edwards, Wis., where he worked until his retirement.

While Bob had a love for all sports, he was most passionate about baseball. He enjoyed every aspect of the game; playing, coaching and watching. When it came to football, he proudly wore his Chicago Bears attire and could recite stats, players, and scores with ease. Bob was also a member of the Elks and AmVets, served in the Army National Guard from 1972-1973, and worked with the American Legion Baseball League for over 30 years. Bob will be remembered most for his bubbly personality, laughter and ability to get along with everyone. He always had a twinkle in his eye and a flirty smile on his face.

Bob is survived by his loving friend, Doreen Zielinsky; his former wife, Sharon Monear and their children, Joe (Amy) Monear and Janelle (Dan Reigel) Edwards; and his grandchildren, Justin and Johnathan Edwards. He is further survived by two sisters, Gail (Rick) Marquis and Nancy (Adrian) Neverve; and a brother, Daryl (Luna) Monear; as well as nephews, extended family and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his father, Edwin Monear; his mother, Aileen Monear; a brother, Eddie Monear; a son-in-law, James Edwards III; and two grandsons, James Edwards IV and Joshua Edwards.

The family would like to thank the staff at Stevens Point Health Services and Pro-Medica Hospice, and to Doreen Zielinski, for all the care and support given to Bob.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests memorials be designated in Bob’s honor to the Stevens Point Sixers; a part of the American Legion baseball program.

Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories in honor of Bob on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 beginning at 1 p.m. at Shuda Funeral Home, 3200 Stanley St., Stevens Point. Chaplain Mark Lewis will conclude the celebration with a few words just before 3 p.m.
