Plover car wash hit with second fire in a year

The Plover car wash is closed for the second time in 11 months following a fire in its attic.

Metro Fire crews responded to the R Store Cenex travel center, 3100 Village Park Dr., at 5:51 a.m. on Tuesday after a caller reported seeing flames from the attic. Plover Fire Chief Mark Deaver said crews had the fire under control within the first five minutes of arriving.

“The car wash will be shut down for a while; there was extensive damage to the trusses,” Deaver said.

Firefighters from Plover, Stevens Point, and Hull were on the scene until about 8:15 a.m. on Nov. 20, Deaver said.

Deaver added the interior contained all new construction. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The same car wash was nearly destroyed after a Christmas Eve Day blaze in 2017 that left it closed for several months. The car wash reopened over the summer.
