Photo of the Day: The aftermath of an ‘oops’

Metro Wire Staff

The remnants of a backyard fire that nearly got out of control on the 2500 block of Stanley St. Saturday night are visible from the road on Oct. 29.

Stevens Point firefighters were called to the home, located immediately west of Partner’s Pub and Grill, at about 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 28 when a caller reported a backyard bonfire that appeared to be out of control.

The fire was part of a backyard gathering. The primary item that was being burned was a couch, according to Battalion Chief Jared Hopfensperger.

Tenants attempted to extinguish the fire using buckets filled with water, but an engine from SPFD was dispatched to ensure the flames were completely out.

It wasn’t immediately clear if anyone from the home was cited. Hopfensperger said the tenants were “educated” on fire safety.
