Photo of the Day: A rough start

Metro Wire Staff

A motorist slid-in near a stop sign at Hickory and Water streets in the village of Whiting on the morning of Feb. 27.

The motorist was uninjured.

A wintry mix of freezing rain and sleet began hitting the Stevens Point and Plover areas Monday morning. Up to two inches of snow is expected to follow, covering icy roadways in the afternoon.

Road conditions were already slick Monday morning. Municipal crews are out spreading brine and sand, but motorists will need to slow it down and allow extra travel time.

The National Weather Service in Green Bay is advising against travel, but anyone needing to go out should keep a safety kit in their car and drive slower than they think they need to be.
