In-person registration is for next Tuesday’s primary election is open until 5 p.m. on Friday, August 7. Voters who have not yet registered to vote can do so at their municipal clerk office. Voters can also register at their polling place on Election Day.

Voters must have resided at their current address for 28 days consecutive days prior to Election Day in order to register at that address. Otherwise, a previous address, and appropriate polling place, can be used.

The deadline to request an absentee ballot by mail is Thursday, Aug. 6. Ballots must be received by 8 p.m. on Election Day to be counted.

County Clerk Kayal Filen said she encouraged voters to hand-deliver their ballots to their municipal clerk to ensure they arrive on time.

Filen also said next week’s election is a partisan primary, meaning, “If you vote in more than one party, your votes may not count.”

The partisan primary for the county offices of clerk, treasurer, and register of deeds, will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 11.

The only contested race next week is for Portage County Clerk between incumbent Kayla Filen and challenger Tammy Naczek, both Democrats.

Pamela R. Przybelski is running unopposed for County Treasurer. Longtime Register of Deeds Cynthia A. Wisinski is also running unopposed. Both are also running as Democrats.
