One injured, one dead, following rollover crash in Pine Grove

Metro Wire Staff

Two men are being treated for injuries following a single-vehicle rollover crash Monday morning in the Town of Pine Grove.

Emergency crews were called to Harding Rd. just south of Mosquito Bluff Rd. at 3:41 a.m. on June 14 for a report of a single-vehicle crash.

Upon arrival, deputies found a pickup truck with two occupants had been southbound on Harding Rd. when the motorist lost control, entered the west ditch, and overturned several times. Both occupants were ejected in the crash.

A 23-year old Pine Grove man, identified as James Johnston, was airlifted by Spirit Air medical helicopter to Aspirus Hospital in Wausau but later died as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash.

The other occupant, 22-year old Dakota Baird from the Town of Liola in Adams Co., was taken by ambulance to St. Michael’s Hospital. He has since been released.

The Wisconsin State Patrol, Bancroft, Almond, and Plover Fire Departments, Bancroft Emergency Medical Responders (EMR), and Adam’s Towing, also responded to the scene.

The crash is still under investigation, according to Sheriff Mike Lukas, with assistance from the state patrol’s accident reconstruction team.

Updates as we have them.
