The Point/Plover Metro Wire, the fastest-growing news outlet in Portage Co., is expanding its coverage and is now seeking additional, permanent part-time staff.
We are seeking talented and passionate community journalists to join our team. The ideal candidates will be thick-skinned but open to constructive criticism, have a strong interest in local news, and have a deep understanding of the community we serve. As a community journalist, you will be responsible for covering a wide range of topics, from local events and government meetings to human interest stories and investigative reporting.
Responsibilities:
- Researching and writing compelling news stories that resonate with our audience
- Building and maintaining relationships with key community stakeholders, including local officials, business owners, and residents
- Conducting interviews and gathering information from a variety of sources
- Collaborating with editors and other team members to develop story ideas and angles
- Meeting deadlines and producing high-quality work under pressure
Qualifications:
- Residents of Portage Co. preferred
- Prior experience in journalism, communications, or a related field is ideal
- Strong writing and editing skills
- Excellent research and interviewing abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- A passion for storytelling and a commitment to journalistic integrity
Reporter internship program: Writers as young as 16 will be considered provided they can submit a knockout writing sample and have written support from an educator in the public, parochial, or home school system.
