Myron Joseph Omernik Jr., 85

Myron Joseph Omernik Jr., of Polonia, was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at the age of 85.

Myron was born on March 19, 1938; the first-born of the late Myron Sr. and Cecilia (née Lebryk) Omernik. In 1958, Myron met Mary Ann Kozelek at a church picnic, and they were married on September 2, 1961, at his life-long parish, Sacred Heart in Polonia.

Myron enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1958 and served until 1960, with the rank of Specialist Fourth Class, where he earned a Certificate of Achievement for outstanding service while serving as a Heavy Equipment Operator, Company C, 62nd Engineer Battalion, Fort Leonard Wood, MO. While there, Myron was instrumental in the construction of the Forney Airfield and commended for his great technical proficiency, outstanding job competence, and sound judgment.

Due to the Berlin Crisis, Myron was recalled to active duty from 1961-1962 and was honorably discharged in 1964. Myron was a proud member of the PLAV-Post 185, for over 50 years.

After his discharge, Myron began his career as a heavy equipment operator with the Operators Union Local 139 and worked for various companies, including FF Mengal Ready Mix, Boldt and Pagel Construction. He also owned and operated Myron Omernik, Jr. Bulldozing where he was known to move more dirt in reverse than most could going forward.

Known for his unmatched wit and endless one-liners, he enjoyed making everyone laugh. His children will remember him as a firm father who wanted only the best for them and always had their best interests at heart. He worked hard his entire life to provide a loving and happy home for his family and he expected no less from his children.

Myron is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Ann; their children, Lynn (Phil) Gliniecki, Carol (Michael) Kurszewski, John (Lori) Omernik, Lisa (Kent) Worzalla, Karen (John) Yach, Scott (Lori) Omernik and Bill (Katrina) Omernik; his grandchildren and their spouses, Felicia (Travis) Krueger, Lance Gliniecki, Tiffany (Jerry) Wanta, Tanya (Sam) Steebs, Taneal (Jake) Strassburger, Tessa (Tanner) Hoppe, Ashley (Zion) Oshikanlu, Alexa Omernik, Dustin Worzalla, Cody (Kirstin) Worzalla, Chase Yach, Tara Yach, Dominik Omernik and Norbert Omernik; as well as 18 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his siblings, Ronald Omernik, Nancy (Paul) Domaszek, Donna (Dennis) Greco and Denise Omernik.

Myron was greeted in heaven by his parents as well as siblings, infant Joseph Omernik, Robert Omernik, Gary Omernik, Linda Konkol, Joanne Omernik and Lawrence Omernik.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at Sacred Heart Parish in Polonia with Rev. Mark Miller officiating. Full Military Honors will follow with burial at the parish cemetery.

Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories on Monday, April 10, 2023 from 3-7 p.m., with a Rosary at 6 p.m., at Shuda Funeral Home, 3200 Stanley Street, Stevens Point.
