Man dies following motorcycle v deer collision

A 24-year-old Buena Vista man is dead following a July 24 collision.

Emergency responders were called to County Hwy. JJ, north of Brady Rd. in Bancroft at 7:02 a.m. on Friday. A caller reported seeing a man lying in the road.

According to a news release from the Portage Co. Sheriff’s Office, an initial investigation of the scene indicates the motorcyclist, identified as Jakub Cieslweicz, was traveling south on County Hwy. JJ when he struck a deer.

The impact threw Cieslweicz from the motorcycle, causing him severe injuries. Life-saving measures were conducted by medics from the Plover Fire Department and Bancroft First Responders.

Firefighters from Almond also responded to secure a landing zone for a Spirit medical helicopter.

Cieslweicz was flown to a trauma center in Marshfield but ultimately did not survive.
