Local law enforcement kick off traffic safety task force

The Portage County Sheriff’s Office, along with police departments in Stevens Point and Plover, is kicking off its annual traffic safety task force.

The multijurisdictional task force is designed to increase law enforcement presence on the roads, which, in turn, will increase voluntary compliance with traffic laws and decrease collisions.

The campaign will focus on speeding, aggressive driving, unrestrained occupants, traffic control violations, and impaired driving.

The enforcement campaign is now underway and goes through the end of August, according to Sheriff Mike Lukas.
