Letter: Resident wants answers on COVID from state leaders

To Senator Testin, Senator Wanggaard, and Senator Bernier-

COVID continues to negatively impact Wisconsin residents’ health, stress our healthcare system, and drag down our state’s economy.

Statistically, fewer COVID-related hospitalizations can be accomplished if more people would get the shot/booster.

Personal choice and lack of state mandates related to the COVID surge do not seem to be working well.

Wisconsin’s Republican Party leans on a platform of personal responsibility. Has your Republican caucus discussed legislation that requires those who do not get the COVID shot to pay (with money) a larger premium for health care—in order to take personal responsibility for their choices? For example; think of the additional premiums smokers pay for their health care due to the added healthcare costs related to their personal choices.

Rather than admire the COVID problem, let’s work together to create solutions or at least a more fair way forward.

Perhaps the laws of basic economics can inspire Wisconsinites to make good choices, or at least take personal financial responsibility for their actions/choices.
