Letter: Immediate action needed to help landlords, small business

To the Editor-

Rent is due. Tenants are not working, can’t pay or keeping cash on hand just in case they don’t know what is coming. On the news, you hear leadership ask landlords to defer payments, work something out, forgive the payments or collect when all this passes.

If tenants are not working, they don’t have money. If they don’t have money, they are now “behind” in just about everything. How are they going to come up with the money now or even later?

The forgotten are the landlord and small business owners without employees. After personally calling local banks, the only options for landlords are to take out a loan, defer payments while your mortgage accrues interest, or work out a payment plan with the tenant who is already financially behind. No income equals no income!

No payment equates to no money. No rent equates to no money to pay the mortgage, utilities, insurance, and taxes. The result rests upon the risk-taker, the capitalist, the American who is “all in” and places everything on the line. As usual, along with the rest of the hard-working middle class, they foot the bill, fund the bailouts, all while experiencing flat wages or reduced income, higher insurance payment, higher medical payments, higher taxes, falling backward versus moving forward. This is wrong! American politics is set up to eat it’s own. Corporations bailed out before the People. Eventually, people will not have the money to feed the greedy.

I personally am not a hand-out guy! I live my life by no mans’ leave. I have been taught to work hard, don’t complain, and you will succeed. It seems as if I work hard to pay the “crown”, (government and corporations)! Small businesses without employees and landlords are in dire need for government to FREEZE the system NOW! No payments, no interest until this passes.

Too many are on the brink of losing everything they worked so hard to build!
