Jerome J. Schultz, 84

Jerome J. Schultz, loving husband, father, brother, grandpa, and great-grandpa, passed away on July 25, 2023, at his home in Stevens Point, at the age of 84.

Jerome was born May 30, 1939, in Stevens Point; the son of Edward and Pearl (née Krush) Schultz. He grew up in the area, attending local schools and graduating from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1957. Throughout his teenage years, he and his older brother, Chet, worked at Dad’s Root Beer Bottling Plant after school, which instilled a hard work ethic in him from then on.

Following high school, Jerome bravely joined the U.S. Army where he was assigned to the Army Corp of Engineers. In July of 1957, he was stationed at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, where he served as a Specialist E-5 instructor in the oxygen-acetylene plants. He proudly served his country for three years until his honorable discharge in July of 1960.

He then returned to Stevens Point where he was hired at Consolidated Paper Mill, working on the paper machines, dedicating 40 years to the company and retiring as a machine tender in December of 2000. Additionally, upon his return to Stevens Point, he met the love of his life, Dorothy Bialas, and on October 12, 1963, the two were united in marriage at St. Peter Catholic Church.

Jerome was a hard working man who was always willing to help out in any way, especially for his family. He loved spending time with his children, and eventually, his grandchildren. He made sure to attend school and sporting events as often as he could and was extremely proud of all their accomplishments.

Jerome was often heard saying, “I taught my grandkids everything they know; unless they get in trouble.” While this statement contradicted his other motto, “You can’t have any fun if you behave,” he truly had a great sense of humor and a love for life.

Jerome enjoyed traveling near and far, from heading up north to see the beautiful fall colors or venturing into neighboring states to road tripping to Tennessee to see family or sightseeing in Branson, Missouri; traveling by car to be sure to take it all in. When he was home, Jerome found solace in his garden and was known for having the best tomatoes. He also enjoyed polka music, hunting, and was an avid fisherman, especially of muskies.

Jerome is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Stevens Point; his two daughters, Janeen (Duane) Rose of Barneveld, Wis., and Amy (Todd) Ostrowski of Custer; his son, Robert (Marybeth) Schultz of Stevens Point; his grandchildren, Samantha (Noah) Bindman of Bothell, Wash., Emily Worzalla of Madison, Jerad (Jennifer) Worzalla of Evansville, Wis., Angela (Alex) Novak of Portland, OR, Adam Novak of Hatley, Wis., Daniel Ostrowski of Custer, Rachel and Rebecca Ostrowski of Custer, Bradley (Amber) Schultz of Iola, and Ashley (Michael) Galvin of Plover; and six great-grandchildren, Hazel, Gemma, Asher, Adaline, Daxon, Leopold, and Aurora. He is further survived by his brother, Ralph (Earlene) Schultz of Clarksville, Tenn.; his sisters-in-law, Arleen Schultz, Clara (Gary) Grossman, and Genevieve Bialas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jerome was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Pearl Schultz; a brother, Chester Schultz; and his father and mother-in-law, Joseph and Clara Bialas.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Compassus Hospice and Home Health Care, the Marshfield Medical Center-Stevens Point oncology staff and the Weston cardiac unit staff, for the exceptional care provided to Jerome and his family.
