Historical society to host inaugural book sale

By Patrick Lynn

The Portage County Historical Society (PCHS) is set to host its inaugural book sale event, offering the public a unique opportunity to acquire items that are out of scope from PCHS’s mission, duplicates, or gently worn materials.

The book sale is scheduled to take place from May 14-16 at the historic Firehouse No. 2, 1949 Strongs Ave. in Stevens Point.

It promises to be a treasure trove for book enthusiasts and history buffs alike, featuring a diverse selection of books, including historical literature, fiction, non-fiction, and more, according to John Harry, director of PCHS.

“Over the past 72 years of our organization’s existence, we’ve accumulated thousands of books and magazines that fall outside the scope of our mission to share the stories of Portage County,” Harry said. “This book sale will help us increase space for items that speak directly to our mission and add more funds for our artifact collection care needs and educational initiatives.”

The book sale will be held from 4-7 p.m. on May 14-16. PCHS members will have early access beginning at 3 p.m. on May 14. Admission is free, and all are welcome to attend.

“This may be the only time we ever offer a sale like this on some fairly unique titles, some of which may be out of print,” Harry added. “Whether you’re a book collector, history enthusiast, or simply looking for your next great read, we hope you’ll come check out this massive selection.”
