Head Start enrollment now underway in Portage County

CAP Services’ Head Start and Early Head Start programs in Stevens Point are now accepting applications for the 2022-23 program year.

The programs offer prenatal, early childhood, and family development programs for eligible families. The programs provide education, health, nutrition, and social/emotional services for each child and offer support and family development services to all family members.

Families must meet eligibility guidelines and are asked to bring income verification to their application appointment. Families whose children have documented disabilities are also encouraged to apply. Parents are encouraged to call for an appointment as soon as possible as enrollment is limited.

CAP’s Head Start programs in Stevens Point provide services at the Family Development Center, 1640 West River Drive, Stevens Point, and Children’s Discovery Center, 3109 John Joanis Drive, Stevens Point.

Family Development Center

CAP’s Head Start program at FDC offers both center-based and home-based program options for children ages 3 to 4. Three-year-old classrooms are in session four days per week.

Head Start collaborates with the Stevens Point Area Public School District to provide 4-year-old kindergarten and Head Start to children who are 4 at FDC. Four-year-old classroom options are in session four days per week.

Early Head Start offers a home-based option for pregnant mothers and children ages 0 to 3.

Applications are currently being accepted for children from the Stevens Point, Plover, Rosholt, Custer, Amherst Junction and Junction City areas.

Parents should call 715-343-7152 to schedule Head Start application appointments, and 715-544-4991 Ext. 122 for Early Head Start appointments. For Spanish, call 715-498-6279.

Children’s Discovery Center

CAP’s Early Head Start classrooms at CDC are for two-year-olds and operate year around, four days per week. Head Start classrooms are for children ages 3 to 4 and are also in session four days per week.
