Fire departments from several municipalities participated in Metro Fire training earlier this month.

Hull Fire Department hosted the training on Aug. 17 at a recently-vacated home at 5498 Golla Rd.

Fire Chief Ken Sadogierski said the scenario involved a two-story house on fire with one person trapped on the second floor. Crews used smoke machines to provide a smoky environment, and dispatchers from the Portage Co. Communications Center played along as if it were a real fire.

The training helps firefighters of all skill levels to work with other departments, and learn from other firefighters, Sadogierski said.

“We’re doing search and rescue [trainiong], fire tac (tactics)…right now, there’s a smoke machine in there so you can’t see your hand in front of your face,” he said.

Sadogierski said the home was vacated earlier this year, and a Town of Hull resident donated the house for use in firefighter training courses. The house will potentially be the site of a training burn at some point in the future, he added.  for the training, a training burn later possibly this year.

Metro Fire is comprised of fire departments from Hull, Stevens Point, and Plover. A Metro Fire response is automatic whenever smoke or flames are visible in a structure.
