Dreier to Host ‘Symphony of Nature’ Event

Metro Wire Staff

Portage County Executive Patty Dreier is hosting a special event to raise funds to two causes close to her heart.

The Symphony of Nature event is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 20, and will raise funds for both the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra—which is celebrating it’s 70th year—and the county’s newest natural offering, Steinhaugen Park.

“It’s my way of sharing some of what I love—nature and music—while we raise
funds for both great causes,” Dreier said in a press release. “Also, I thought this would be a great way to celebrate as I look toward my transition from this public office in April.”

The two-term County Executive announced she would not seek reelection late last year.

Music will be presented by Dr. Lawrence Leviton, UW-Stevens Point Professor of Cello and Co-Principal Cellist
with the CWSO, at Jordan Park Lodge.

Outgoing County Parks Director Gary Speckmann, who retires this week, will also join Dreier in presenting the story of the 270-acre Steinhaugen Recreation Area, highlighting its history, development and features. Steinhaugen opened in 2016.

The event will start at Jordan Park Lodge on the corner of County Hwy. Y and Highway 66 at 3 PM. Hot chocolate, wassail, and cookies will be served.

At 4 PM, the event moves to Steinhaugen—located about five miles northeast of Jordan Park on Bentley Rd.—where a one-mile trail walk will be lit with torches. A guided tour, or self-guided walks, will be available.

A minimum donation of $20 per group is recommended. Proceeds will benefit the CWSO and the creation of an informational kiosk at Steinhaugen.

The event will conclude at about 6 PM.
