Stevens Point and Plover have declared a snow emergency ahead of Tuesday’s expected snowstorm.

The National Weather Service in Green Bay has issued a winter storm warning for Portage Co. through Thursday, and forecasts up to 10 inches of snow with wind gusts up to 40 miles an hour.

NWS said the storm is expected to roll into the area late Monday night.

Mayor Mike Wiza issued the snow emergency just before noon on Jan. 8. The snow emergency is in effect from 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 9 to 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 10.

Plover Police Chief Ryan Fox said the village’s snow emergency will be in effect from 12 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 9, to noon on Jan. 10.

A snow emergency means that no one may park, stop, or leave any vehicle standing on any street, or any portion of a public street in the city. On-street overnight parking is also prohibited.

Vehicles in violation may be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense.
