City, CREATE, partner for to plan future amenities for city

By Patrick Lynn

Public input is being sought on the future of Stevens Point.

Stevens Point this week announced a new strategic planning process based on public input. In partnership with CREATE and Clive, Iowa-based Alchemy Community Transformations, the seven-month planning process will “address local challenges and develop a vision for the future,” according to a news release from the city.

The goal is to help the city spur economic development and population growth by creating “cultural and entrepreneurial amenities, concepts, and catalytic projects,” the news release said.

The process will include “community visioning” and stakeholder outreach, a quantitative and qualitative community assessment, strategic plan development, and finally, implementation objectives and recommendations.

Once complete, the data will be published on a custom website, including all information gathered, the full action plan with steps for implementation, and appendices with custom business models.

The community visioning and stakeholder outreach phase will begin with an online survey designed for Stevens Point residents and stakeholders, so they can share their perspective on the city and its future.

The survey can be found here.

Two community visioning sessions will also be held next week. The virtual Zoom meetings are scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 5 from 5-6 p.m., and on Thursday, Aug. 6, 8-9 a.m. The public is strongly encouraged to attend and participate.
