Bike commission to review Stanley St., bike counts

By Patrick Lynn

Stevens Point’s new bicycle committee on Wednesday will propose improvements for a UWSP campus street network, as well as review a planned lane conversion on Stanley St.

The Bicycle Pedestrian Street Safety Commission was created by Councilwoman Tori Jennings and approved by the city council in April. The five-member commission was formalized in June.

The commission will also get an update on the comprehensive plan and zoning codes.

Also on the July 18 agenda is the election of a chair and vice chair, discussion on open meetings, and bicycle/pedestrian counts slated for September. Further information on those items, as well as the proposed campus street network, were not included in the meeting packet.

BPSSC replaces the bicycle and pedestrian advisory committee, due in part to council members’ concerns that BPAC wasn’t taken seriously in city government.

The commission meets at 9 a.m. on July 18 in Room 122 of the Stevens Point Police Department, 933 Michigan Ave. The public is welcome to attend.
