SPFD conducts training burn on Tuesday

Stevens Point firefighters are conducting a training burn on Tuesday.

After receiving several messages from concerned residents on Aug. 1, the Metro Wire confirmed with the Stevens Point Fire Department that black smoke seen on the city’s southside is from a training burn. It wasn’t immediately clear why no warning went out ahead of time.

A crew is training on a car fire at the SPFD training site on Whiting Ave., across the street from the Portage Co. Health and Human Services building.

The site will eventually become a permanent home for the SPFD’s training center, and ultimately, a third fire station to serve the south end of Stevens Point.
