Michael John Westberg, 71

Michael John Westberg, age 71, of Custer, passed away on July 19, 2023, at Marshfield Medical Center in Weston.

Michael was born November 15, 1951, in Milwaukee to Phillip and Helen (née Macholl) Westberg. He attended schools in the Milwaukee area and then, as an adult, relocated to Stevens Point.

Michael was known by many names and nicknames (Skip) but the ones he liked the most were dad, grandpa, Uncle Mike, brother, and friend.

Michael worked most of his adult life doing automotive upholstery. He retired after 40 years from his own business, Michael’s Upholstery in Stevens Point. His work included complete custom interiors in vintage and hot rod cars, convertible top replacement, motorcycle, and boat seats, and even did work on a covered wagon. He loved the automotive industry, and the Iola Car Show was a favorite yearly event for Mike.

Most of all he loved his daughters Rachel and Gloria, and granddaughter Autumn. He was very proud of all of their accomplishments as well as those of his many nieces, nephews and great, even great-great nieces and nephews. Mike loved to see children and was known to give hats and mittens to school kids passing by his shop because he was afraid they would freeze on their way to school.

Mike spent a lot of time in his later years reading and meditating on the word of God and was a member of Woodlands Church in Plover. He made many, many friends there and enjoyed the worship services and other gatherings. He prayed for his family, his friends (new and old), and the world in general.

Michael is survived by his wife Carolyn, daughters Rachel and Gloria, granddaughter Autumn, sister Janet (Mike) Muehlbauer, brother Phillip (Kathy), sister-in-law Janet (Russ) Reimer, brother-in-law Garth Frost, brother in law Fred (Karen) Frost, sister in law Betsy (Dave) Seidel and many nieces, nephews and good friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Benny, sister Kathy, niece Helen, great-nephew Martin, father- and mother-in-law Garth and Mary Frost, brother-in-law Andy Frost.

A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. noon on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at Boston Funeral Home, 1649 Briggs St. in Stevens Point. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Linwood Union Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that you spend some time with someone, volunteer, make a phone call, have someone over, take someone out to eat. Enjoy life, enjoy people.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

-2 Corinthians 1:3-4
