Matthew J. Fox, 55

Matthew J. Fox, 55 of Plover, died on Friday, January 12, 2024, at home with his family after a 10-month battle with stage 4 metastatic gastric cancer.

Matt was born January 13, 1968, in Stevens Point to Joe Fox and the late Joan (née Ziaja) Fox. He graduated from SPASH in 1986, and UWSP with a BS in Economics in 1991.

On September 5, 2003, he married Amy (née Pallen) Fox, and they have three children.

He was employed for 25 years with The Copps Corporation (later Roundy’s) where he worked his way up to the store director. He then was a custodial services supervisor at UWSP for 10 years. The last three years, up until his illness, was employed by Mid-State Technical College as a facility maintenance technician. He also was a part-time facility maintenance technician for the Stevens Point Area YMCA for the last five years.

Matt enjoyed doing woodworking projects, working out, fishing, and reading. It brought him the greatest joy to watch his son play baseball over the past 14 years, and watch his two daughters dance in recitals and competitions.

Matt was proudly the co-captain and hosted the trivia team, Late Night with Bob Keeshan, for the last 34 years. He always proclaimed Trivia weekend the best weekend of the whole year.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years Amy, son Jackson, and twin daughters Nicole and Brooklyn. He is also survived by his father Joseph Fox, sister Julie Lutz; nephew Anthony; sister Judie Nolan (Dave); nieces Rachel (Jeremy), Megan, and Emily; brother Mike Fox; in-laws Bob and Linda Pallen; brother-in-law Troy Pallen (Andrea); niece Kendra; nephew TJ; brother-in-law Todd Pallen (Sara); nephew Chandler; nieces Delaney and Kendall; and Aunt Vera Rooney.

He was preceded in death by his mother Joan (Ziaja) Fox, and close family uncle Barney Rooney.

The family would like to thank all the staff at Aspirus oncology on Illinois Ave and a special thank you to Matt’s main nurse, Rebecca.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Stevens Point Area YMCA in Matt’s name. Matt and his family have been members of the Y for over 15 years. He and his wife believe strongly in the Y’s mission and the importance of the Y in our community. Matt was a regular in the Wellness Center, five days a week before his illness. He was employed there part-time, volunteered frequently for the Y, and really loved all his time spent there.

A Celebration of Life service for Matthew will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at Pisarski Community Funeral Home, 2911 Plover Rd., Plover. Visitation on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m., and again on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of service at the Pisarski Plover Funeral Home.
