Mary Ellen Moore, 71

Mary Ellen Moore, age 71, of Stevens Point, died peacefully at home on September 24, 2023 with her husband by her side.

Mary was born on November 13, 1951, to the late William and Darlene (née Vertz) Karpinen in Sturgeon Bay, Wis. She grew up in the area and graduated from Southern Door High School. She met her future husband, Richard at a fair in 1969 and fell in love.

She married Richard A. Moore on June 30, 1972, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay.

Mary resided in Door County while Richard was stationed overseas in the U.S. Air Force. She moved to Bossier Parish, Louisiana and Marquette County, Michigan, when he became stationed stateside. Following Richard’s time of service, the couple settled in Stevens Point, where they became community residents and raised their four children.

In her earlier years, Mary worked for Ellis Stone and Mabie & Associates. She later became employed with Bancker and Kreul Orthodontics as a receptionist and appointment coordinator. Mary worked there until retirement.

Mary will be remembered for her quick wit, dry sense of humor, gentle spirit, and kindness. In her spare time, she enjoyed the four seasons of Wisconsin and spending time outdoors in her flower gardens. She always kept busy, whether it was crafting, knitting, baking, or antiquing. Mary also enjoyed traveling, especially to historical sites.

Most importantly, Mary accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior as an adult and now spends her eternity with Him. Philippians 1:21, “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.”

Survivors include her loving husband, Richard Moore; children, Richard (Angela) Moore, Brandon (Aileen) Moore, Amber (Peter) Pellegrom, and Nicholas Moore (Amy); and grandchildren, Siiri, Deven, Sophia, Zachary, Iva, Ellie, and Gabriel. She is also survived by her brother, Steven Karpinen, many nieces and nephews and extended family.

A Memorial Service will be held at Berea Baptist Church, Stevens Point on Saturday, October 7 at 11 a.m. No visitation will precede the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation for research towards a cure.
