Linda T. Johnson, 73

Linda T. Johnson, age 73, of Stevens Point, died on January 27, 2024 at University Hospital in Madison.

Linda was born on August 15, 1950 to the late Albert and Ranvieg Johanne (née Amdal) Skinnes in Beloit, Wis. She grew up in the area, attended the local grade school. Moved to Ashland, Wis., her senior year and graduated from Ashland High School in 1968.

Linda attended UW-Eau Claire before transferring to Madison General Hospital School of Nursing. She completed her nursing degree in 1972. In addition, Linda also completed a BSN program from Viterbo College in 1999.

In June of 1972, Linda became employed with Madison General Hospital as a surgical nurse. She transferred to the Rice Clinic Internal Medicine Dept in Stevens Point in 1975. An opportunity with St. Michael’s Hospital became available in 1989. Her experiences within the organization included being a staff nurse in the ICU, surgery department, nursing supervisor, and culminating in the emergency department. In 1999 she accepted a position with St Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield as a flight nurse with Spirit Medical Transportation Services.

Linda retired from nursing in 2012. She was also chairperson of the Organ Procurement Committee. Organ donation was important to her and she has donated her corneas to Lions Eye Bank of Wisconsin.

Linda will be remembered most as a caregiver, through and through. Family was extremely important to her. She especially adored her granddaughter, and grand nieces and nephews.

Linda’s green thumb was on display as she was playing in her many gardens. She frequently lent her gardening expertise to anyone who asked. Linda created amazing works of art from rug hooking, to cross-stitching, to embroidery, to personal card making (to name a few). She also enjoyed baking and cooking, particularly when her kids were home. Linda enjoyed hiking in canyons and slick rock in the Southwest, challenging her fear of heights. In her spare time, Linda enjoyed feeding the birds and chasing away those pesky squirrels.

Survivors include her husband, Richard; children, Erik (Carolyn) Johnson, Kjersten (Josh) Hewes, Christopher Johnson; granddaughter, Lauren Hewes; brother, David (Leslie Josephson) Skinnes; sister, Karen (David) St. Germain; numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Steve Skinnes.

A Memorial Service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, February 3, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Stevens Point. A time of visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to the Lions Eye Bank of Wisconsin (lebw.org), an advocate for organ, eye, and tissue donation.
