James Benjamin, Sr., 69

James Benjamin, Sr., of Stevens Point, passed away on January 4, 2024, at the House of the Dove in Marshfield, at the age of 69.

James was born August 31, 1954 in Plover; son of the late Earl and Beatrice (née Teske) Benjamin. He grew up in the area, attending Roosevelt Elementary, Ben Franklin Middle School, and finally, Stevens Point Area Senior High. In his high school years, his attention was more focused on racing Ford cars and slinging tar.

Following high school, James married the love of his life, Marilyn Baltzell. The two were united in marriage on September 23, 1972, at St. Bronislava and welcomed their beloved son, James, Jr., shortly after to complete their perfect family. James and Marilyn also started a successful business together, B & B Paving. They were blessed with 49 years of marriage before Marilyn’s passing in August of 2022, just one month shy of celebrating 50 beautiful years together as husband and wife.

Throughout his life, James’s love of cars never left him; he always had gasoline running through his veins. He enjoyed watching stock car racing and bonding with his brother when traveling throughout Wisconsin, visiting countless speedways. Sometimes his attention would shift to watching the Green Bay Packers, doing some fishing, or building his business. In fact, he absolutely loved his career, which was displayed through its success. While James may have been a bit rough around the edges, those who knew him well, knew how caring, loyal, and generous he was. His outspoken, charismatic personality will forever be missed.

James is survived by his son, James (Jessica) Benjamin, Jr.; two grandchildren, Sean and Luke; and his siblings, Bonnie (Dan) Colina, Gary (Crystal) Benjamin, and Patricia Erickson.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Beatrice; his beloved wife, Marilyn; and a sister, Lori Sullivan.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January, 11, 2024, at Shuda Funeral Chapel – 3200 Stanley Street, Stevens Point. Chaplain Mark Lewis will officiate. Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
