Informational meeting scheduled on city’s homeowner grant, loan programs

By Patrick Lynn

STEVENS POINT — City officials this month will offer an informational meeting on some changes to municipal loan and grant programs available to homeowners in Stevens Point.

Four grant and loan programs are available to resident homeowners to help maintain or improve their homes. Under recent changes to the Housing Modernization Loan Program, eligibility has been expanded to allow for more homeowners to use low-interest, two-percent rate loans with flexible terms of up to 10 years for major improvements.

Also available is the Neighbor Helping Neighbor Grant, which was recently increased to a maximum award of $5,000 with a matching funds provision.

Mayor Mike Wiza said additional changes are also expected, and those will be discussed at the upcoming meeting.

Area contractors and city homeowners are welcome to attend.

The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 21 in the Community Room of the Stevens Point Police Department, 933 Michigan Ave.

City-operated housing programs are available to review online here. Residents should also consider learning more about federal energy efficiency tax credits with their tax preparers, in the event they qualify for planning home improvements for additional reduction in costs.
