From the Staff: A warning of April Fools’ Day shenanigans

Metro Wire Staff

Local politicians control our lives in more ways than we’d care to admit sometimes — and with far more relevance and frequency than officials on the state and federal scene.

They create ordinances that are sometimes contradictory or seem inflated, confusing, or silly. They sometimes seem to waste a lot of time.

And sometimes, they make statements they can’t possibly expect us to believe.

Sometimes they don’t reply to phone calls or emails, and sometimes they’re kind of mean.

Sometimes, it’s kind of like they forget they work for us.

This year marks the sixth annual tradition of the Metro Wire poking fun at our local leaders on April 1. While only some public figures will be “targeted,” none of the candidates or issues on the April 2 ballot will be included.

Tipping our hat to The Onion and our friends at The Pointer, we’ll sprinkle a bit of April Fools’ coverage throughout our morning news on Monday, April 1.

This is the only warning you’ll get. It’s up to you to decide which stories are real. If you figure it out, don’t spoil the fun for others.

April Fools’ stories will only appear at spmetrowire.com until noon on April 1, and sent to our subscribers in that morning’s email.

In the event of real breaking news on Monday, April 1, the Metro Wire will remove its April Fools’ stories from the website immediately to avoid any confusion.
