Anthony “Rich” Labandz, 84

Anthony “Rich” Labandz, age 84, of Amherst Junction, passed away on Monday, July 17, 2023.

Rich was born on December 24, 1938 in Minneapolis, Minn., a son of Anthony E. and Janet K. (née Wojtowicz) Labandz.

He attended College in Minneapolis and then served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963.

He was employed as an Ophthalmic Technician in Minnesota, Wausau, and Stevens Point and retired after nearly 45 years.

He was married to Geri Ann Olson in October 1961. The couple later divorced.

On September 25, 1993, he was united in marriage to Deborah Reno in Stevens Point. Deborah survives him.

Rich enjoyed many hobbies, and just a few included traveling with his children when they were young and with Debbie later in years, old cars, skiing, bicycling, running and a favorite pastime, painting. He was a member of St. Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Contact Lens Society of America, Plover Evening Lions Club, The Barber Shoppers group along with several Car Clubs. Rich had a very social personality, always interested in speaking to and making friends with whoever and wherever he would meet someone. His greatest love though, was being with his wife, children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah; children, Rick (Stephenie) Labandz, Jr., of Minneapolis, Gina (James) Sorensen of Stoughton and Angelina (Paul) Peterson of Amherst; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Tom and Vince Labandz; along with numerous other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Saint Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic Church (Fancher), 3995 County Road K, Amherst, Wis., 54406 at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 25, 2023 with Rev. Jerzy Rebacz presiding.

Military Honors will be performed at the church.

Private family burial will take place at the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King at a later date.

Family and friends are invited to the church for a visitation from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Tuesday.
