Alan “Al” E. Hoffman, 72

Alan “Al” E. Hoffman, of Mosinee, passed away on June 17, 2023, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, at the age of 72.

Al was born August 26, 1950, in Wausau, Wis., the son of August and Lois (née Davis) Hoffman. While he was born in central Wisconsin, Al grew up in Port Washington, Wis., graduating from Port Washington High School in 1968.

While living in Port Washington, Al met Diane Alderton. The two were united in marriage on July 27, 1973. They welcomed a daughter, Kristy, and a son, Alan, and happily lived as a family of four. To support his family in his early adult years, Al owned and operated his own business, A&D Automotive, in Lyons, Wis. While he did a variety of automotive repairs, he was very proud of the fact that he painted a few cars that were used in movies. Once he decided to leave the automotive industry, he went on to manage lumber yards until his retirement.

While Al was a hardworking man, he was also a loyal and generous person. He often showed his love by teasing those around him and enjoyed giving them nicknames. Al and his wife, Diane, spent time together often, but genuinely enjoyed camping and boating together and with family and friends. Al was a people person and his magnetic personality attracted numerous friends. Additionally, Al loved to share his passion for cars with his friends and family and worked hard to teach his grandchildren how to restore old cars and trucks.

Al is survived by his beloved wife, Diane; his daughter, Kristy Hoffman; his grandson, James Belanger; and his granddaughters, Arianna (Joseph Wuhrmann) Hoffman, Jenna Smith, Tristina Hoffman, and Elliana Hoffman. He is further survived by his sisters, Judy Hoffman and Karen (David) Wetzel; and his brothers, Rick (Joann) Hoffman, Terry (Kathleen) Hoffman, and Scott (Laura) Hoffman.

Al was preceded in death by his son, Alan A. Hoffman; his parents, August and Lois; a brother, Dennis Hoffman; and a sister, Carla Neveaux.

The family would like to give a special Thank You to the doctors and medical staff for the care provided to Alan as well as the support provided to his family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 23, 2023, beginning at 10 a.m., at Shuda Funeral Chapel, 3200 Stanley St., Stevens Point. The celebration will conclude with full Military Honors at the funeral home at 12 p.m.
